What is The Aural?
The Aural Premonition was officially founded in 2012, after I graduated from Luther College and worked at 1240 KWLC. Originally a radio show in 2011, The Aural evolved into a multifaceted musical outlet online, based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Coverage and features include song premieres, album reviews, artist interviews, live show and festival reviews, thought pieces, and photography.
The Aural has been my main avenue for featuring music that intrigues me, seeing as much live music as possible, and getting to know the musicians and hard-working people who make it all happen. While I am influenced by artists globally and hope to reach an international audience, I tend to focus my attention on the communities I am most connected to, including the Minnesota music scene and my current residence in Colorado. What is The Aural's mission? My mission is to introduce people to new music that they can take or leave, buy and go see live, never care about again, or follow for the rest of their lives. I never recommend anything that I don't feel is worth at least one listen, whether it is to broaden your experience with music, or just get out of your comfort zone once in a while. Most of it I am unabashedly in love with, and I suspect you might end up in love with it, too. I aspire to create more informed musical choices, to reduce limits, to start thought-provoking conversations, and for you to be able to listen to more of what you love in the modern world, rather than less.
There has never been a better time to be in love with indie music and the musicians who create it. I write about and share what I discover because I find it difficult not to.
