Minneapolis' Graveyard Club may stay in the spooky spirit year-round, but this new single is the perfect addition to any Halloweekend playlist. They're playing live in Minneapolis on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Icehouse with Dem Atlas for a freaky costume party and single release, then headed to Reykjavik to play at Iceland Airwaves in November.
"Ouija was the first song we finished after "Cellar Door" was released (August 2016). I was playing around with different arpeggiator settings on synthesizers and I stumbled upon a couple glitchy, strange patterns and was immediately hooked. The rest of the song was written around those pieces. Lyrically, it has to do with someone bored with life, who develops an interest in the paranormal world to compensate for feeling so out of touch with the real one."

Chelsea Wolfe
Chelsea's done it again, releasing her fifth studio album in seven years with Hiss Spun. NPR says it best, describing her music as "a maze shrouded in barbed wire and velvet," and "heavy metal melodrama." She floats somewhere in the world of goth, heavy metal, alternative, and electronic - heavy on the goth. This album was even recorded in Salem, Massachusetts. So she's perfect for the Halloween season, leading into early sunsets and longer hours of darkness. Live she is a force of nature, and she'll be in Denver this weekend. (Lucky me.)
From an interview with musicradar, Wolfe said:
“16 Psyche was a riff I had kicking around for a year or so, and when I finally brought it to the band I wasn’t sure if anything would come of it, but right away we all had tons of ideas and it came together really quickly."

About a year after their independently-released LP Jessica Rabbit, the noise-pop duo is back with a mini-album, Kid Kruschev, (out Nov. 10) and two new singles, "Rainmaker" and "And Saints." In a statement, Derek Miller said: "Alexis moved north of Brooklyn recently, somewhere with trees and cliffs, providing us with a new space to write and record without pissing off neighbors, so that’s what we’ve been doing. We didn’t want to wait another year or two to release something. We like the idea of putting out shorter records at a more consistent rate, so we’re gonna give it a shot for a while, see how it feels."

Some of you might recognize the main synth/chord progression from the trailer we made for Reign of Terror back in 2011. I've always loved those chords...only took me six years to find the right spot for them. I've also been dying to sample the Soul Searchers "Ashley's Roachclip" break, which is up there with Funky Drummer in my humble opinion (Miss you, Clyde). I think the two speak to each other, puts me in a good place. And of course I really, really love Alexis' vocal which sounds desperate in the best way. Kid Kruschev is out November 10th."
